What Has The Globalization Brought to Our Community

Turkey, which is the country I have lived in since I was born, is located between mostly Asia and partially Europe. Where Turkey is located has led Turkey to get easily globalized. Even though Turkey was founded almost a hundred years ago, the time for Turkey to get globalized did not take long. By observing the last two decades, people can easily understand what special things in Turkey the globalization has brought and what special things in Turkey the globalization has destroyed. In Turkey, the effects of the globalization are both positive and negative, which can be observed on five points: the way people work, get educated, travel, communicate, and live in their homes.
First, to understand the effects of the globalization in Turkey, how Turkey has been affected from the changes in the work life must be carefully observed. Before the globalization, there were not so many job opportunities in Turkey. Because of that, people had to get by what they were gaining from farming; however, they could manage to live with the food they produced. With the changes the globalization has brought things have dramatically changed. Today, there are a lot of job opportunities in Turkey. However, the rate of people who are unemployed is more than it was used to be. The number of people who farm to get by is so few. People have moved to big cities to find some jobs that have more income than farming. As the population of the big cities have grown, the opportunity of finding jobs has become more difficult. Furthermore, as the education system has grown, the requirements to get a job have risen, too.
Second, to understand the effects of the globalization in Turkey, how Turkey has been affected from the changes in the education must be carefully observed. Before the globalization, as the technologic developments were neither widely known nor used in the education system, the lecturers were only studied with books, notebooks, and blackboards. As they were not useful in every moment, students were struggling to study their lectures. Furthermore, the number of schools was not so much, so students had to walk more than an hour to reach their schools. As the transportation was nothing like how it is now, even a rich family’s child had to suffer from those problems. However, with the changes the globalization has brought things have significantly changed. Today, the technologic developments help students study their lecture whenever they want and wherever they like. There are a lot of schools in every location; however, students do not have to go to a school to study. Homeschooling and distance learning are two options of studying without going to a school. However, the globalization has led people to move to the big cities and crowded classes prevent students from understanding the context of a lecture.
Third, to understand the effects of the globalization in Turkey, how Turkey has been affected from the changes in the transportation must be carefully observed. Before the globalization, talking about the transportation only meant riding a horse and the automobiles were not like how they are now. Even in the big cities, people were able to drive their cars only on the main roads as the roads were not arranged for cars. As the transportation was not developed, serious problems that occurred before the globalization usually ended up with sadness. However, with the changes the globalization has brought things have dramatically changed. Today, people can travel anywhere and the time they spend when they are on their way is so little compared to the time people spent before the globalization. However, the traffic is generally a big problem in the big cities. Nevertheless, there are a lot of options such as planes and buses to travel around the country or abroad. Furthermore, the highly developed subway system allows people who live in the big cities to travel around the city, which is both fast and cheap. However, the damage the new developed transportation vehicles cause to the environment is huge and incurable.
Fourth, to understand the effects of the globalization in Turkey, how Turkey has been affected from the changes in the way of how people communicate must be carefully observed.  Before the globalization, people could only use phones, faxes, and letters to communicate with others. The communication devices were not developed, so people had to go to some stations to use those devices. However, with the changes the globalization has brought things have dramatically changed. Today, people can easily communicate with phones, faxes, and letters, but those things are not popular as they were used to be before the globalization. There are some websites that people can connect and communicate with both their acquaintances and the people they do not know in their real life. There is no beyond in the communication system after the globalization. However, today, the people who used old ways to communicate such as writing letters claim that those old ways were more pleasant.
Fifth, to understand the effects of the globalization in Turkey, how Turkey has been affected from the changes in people’s residents must be carefully observed. Before globalization, people were living in small houses, which generally had gardens in front. The gardens were useful for people because they could grow plants and had their dinner there. Where they were living was nice, but as the buildings had not been built in terms of the dangers of earthquakes, people dramatically suffered from the consequences of earthquakes before the globalization. However, with the changes the globalization has brought things have dramatically changed. Today, people have the change of living in huge buildings. These buildings do not offer a garden for its residents, but they have pools, parks, and sport centers. As the structure of the buildings is arranged by observing the dangers of earthquakes, people do not have to care about the earthquake. Moreover people live in the big buildings, but unfortunately the concept of being a neighbor is not important to them as it was before the globalization.
To sum up, the globalization has affected the way we work, get educated, travel, communicate, and live in our house. These effects can be both positive and negative. However, people always need to change the way they live, otherwise there will be no points why we live. How we lived our life must have a meaning to the world we live in Otherwise we would live the same life with someone who had lived before us. To avoid that, we need to be open to the changes our life does offer.
